Do NOT install Windows 10 Build 2004

Windows 10 build 2004 is causing a lot of issues for a lot of people, not just for MC users. At this point I would advise NOT installing build 2004. If you have already installed it, and have a restore point, downgrade using the restore point. If you've installed it within the  past 10 days, you can roll back the installation to the previous version. If it's been over 10 days, or you did a clean install of build 2004, then you're out of luck. The only option in this case is to do a clean install of Windows 10 build 1909 and then reinstall all of your applications.

If it's been less than 10 days, you can downgrade Windows 10 to a previous version. See the following Microsoft article:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

and choose Remove an installed Windows update.

    My experience up until now.

If running any older version of MC prior 2018.x make sure you are running the latest PACE ilok drivers or you will face BSOD's.

Systems that upgraded from earlier versions like 1903, 1909 to 2004 sometimes produce odd performance behavior, I have not been able to find out why and there are plenty of people reporting the same in other (microsoft) forums.

Clean formatted or 'reset not keeping any data' setups of windows 10 2004 are running fine including with older versions of MC as long as you update the Pace drivers directly after installing MC prior the first restart.

I just updated the laptop in my specs to v2004 of Windows 10 Pro, and Media Composer 2020.9 seems to be working fine.

This, of course, is not official word from Avid (the version matrix says Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise v1809 or later), so if you try it and your computer explodes, leaving you financially and creatively destitute, please do not blame me. I'm the one who risked it all, dove in without knowing how deep the water is, and updated to v2004 of Windows 10 just to provide an answer to this question.

Re: Do NOT install Windows 10 Build 2004

Windows 2004 upgrade happened to me at a time when my edit work was nill.  When I did get some editing work I found Avid to be unstable,  mainly it would crash the computer when ever I exited out of Avid.

I contacted Avid support and they said  "Based on your description it sounds like you have a Mojo or Nitris DX attached to the system." I disconected the Mojo box and everything worked.  I set avid to use the Blackmagic card on my system for video to my monitor.

Avid support did get back to me and said Avid would not be fixing the problem, the support rep said that the Mojo units have reached end of life so eventually I'll start looking to upgrade my system.

    Re: Windows 10 version

MS has resolved a number of issues in the 2004 release, including the defrag issue among others. Personally I'm still waiting for the next release, but if the current updated version is now working then you can try updating. You can always roll back within 10 days if you find any issues.
