    23.98 to 24 export

    Need to export aproject that is @ 23.98 to 24 for a dcp. Does avid do proper audio sample rate conversion in order to do the export or will the sample rate be 47.xxx for a 48khz original? Does it make a diffeence if you change the bit depth? Is there any comand one can run to force this?

    Hi, I just tried this as I didn't know the answer myself!  My 23.98 seq exported at 24 contained 48kHz audio, according to both VLC and Premiere Pro - just 2 apps I had to hand to check it in.

    BTW I did the export by creating a 24fps project and opening the bin with the 23.98 seq in it from the 23.98fps project.

    But that adds motion adapters. Of course that keeps audio at 48K, as the duration of the sequence doesn't change, and you are applying motion adapters. Most certainly NOT what you want when you want to go from 23.976 to 24.000 for DCP, though.

    Doing a mixdown in the 23.976 project, opening that in the 24 project, and adjusting Playback Speed in Source Settings would actually perform a speed pull-up.

    For sound, some sample rate conversion is necessary. If you have a clip with picture and sound, and change the Playback Rate in Source Settings, then the audio speed will be adjusted together with the picture. I'm 99.99% sure that if you export the ressult, it will be sample rate converted to 48000Hz.

    For sound-only clips, I'm not sure if Playback Rate is available, though. In that case you can still use something like Wave Agent by Sound Devices and stamp the sample rate of the WAV of the mix to 48048Hz, and import that into MC with the option to convert the sample rate to the project's sample rate. After that, you will have a 48k mix in MC that would match the picture running at 24.000fps.

    I'm also fairly sure that many DCP authoring tools allow you to bring in a 23.976fps source, which they will speed up during the DCP authoring.

    Thanks for the 99.99% vote of confidence. Is there any official documentation that states this? On some exports there have been sync complaints (which we could not detect...) but without authoritative information the client refuses to accept that just maybe something else in the chain is off.

    I'd concur, in all my preps for DCP, the DCP house accepted 23.98 -- so I'd double-check with them instead of risking a mistake.
