Multicam Slow - Media Composer 2018

    Hi,

    We are running:

Media Composer 2018.12.5 on HP Z840 (Windows 10)

    Interplay 2018.11 Client & Engine 2018.9

We were previously on Media Composer 8.4.4 and groups were performing great.

Now across Media Composer 2018 (we have been on 2018.5 and 2018.11) switching to multicam mode is noticeably slower and we regularly receive hardware underrun errors when playing back - despite having 64GB of RAM, 10Gb fibre and 36-cores on a qualified z840. Have tried reducing the number of angles (from 20 to 11) without any luck.

Is anyone else having similar issues on the new Media Composer?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

    Simply said. Yes.

However from 2018.11 and later things have improved a bit. But it's still not as good as on 8.4. especially in larger timelines

    Hi Jeroen,

Yes we actually used to be on 8.4.4 so the change is very noticeable. We're having multipe complaints about the performance of multicam editing, especially on the more complex edits unfortunately. Just enabling multicam editing takes 1-2 seconds and lots of editors are used to hitting that command and going straight into playback!

Exactly what we see here. Current workaround is to split the sequences and have a max duration of about 20 minutes (time in between commercial breaks)
