    Error Opening MC8.9.3

Folks: In an earlier post I recounted how my motherboard fried and I am replacing it. In the meantime I thought I'd use MC First and do a little work on a project I'd saved in my old (pre-fry) Media Composer Project folder/files only to learn MCF cannot work with these. Someone suggested I just download the free MC trial while my system was being repaired (sounded smart). So I did and now I get the following every time I try to launch -

    Exception: Structured Exception, ExceptionCode:3221225477, ExceptionString:ACCESS_VIOLATION, FaultAddress:0X00000000140C0F030, MinDumpFileName:5707dc5c-8eb2-439f-957c-5788b07dacbe.dmp

Searched and a few blogs said to rename the Settings folder in Users-> Public -> Public Documents -> Avid Media Composer which appeared to work for some people. No luck for me... I guess I can wait another week or so until my system is repaired, but seems like a waste of time (and that Avid isn't working)... Any suggestions always appreciated. Tom

Tom, I can't comment on the error message, but if You installed MC on top of MC First that's it. If You uninstalled MC First before installing MC, it could be that the uninstaller left some conflicting files in Your hard drive. Uninstall everything Avid related, and manually delete whatever is left in the Program files folder and the other directories involved. If You search the forums there's a recent discussion on best uninstall practices and cleaning up the uninstall leftovers.

Luca: Thanks for the info and I will double check (maybe even re do everything) but I defintiely went through Control Panel -> Programs and uninstalled everything Avid related as well as the Pace program, then deleted remaining folders. It's getting to the point I should have my old system back soo, but this has kinda become a bug I want to see if I can resolve... Will let you/folks know... Tom
