Perpertual License "Expires" in 8 days????

I have a Symphony perpetual license.  But a notice just started popping up saying my "subscription" expires in 8 days.    I already renewed my support contract, which is now good until the end of 2019.

My Avid workstation is not connected to the internet, except for updates, etc.   But I thought "perpetual" means I own the software forever...   Is my Avid suddenly going to stop working in 8 days??????

    Hi Terry,

Please pm or email the systems ID, I will get support to check the license.

    Thanks,

I plugged in my ethernet cable to bring my workstation online and logged into the Avid Application Manager.   I updated my information and it now correctly reflects my expiration date as the end of 2019.   It also lists "perpetual" as the license type.   That's a relief...

I'm still confused why the notification would say my "license" is set to expire?   Technically, it was the support subscription that was expiring and not the license, which is perpetual.

Going online and signing into the Avid Application Manager fixed the notification.   But isn't the point of a "perpetual" license is that the current version of MC will keep working until the computer dies?

I thought I had solved the problem, but this morning I got the notification again that my "license" will expire in 4 days.   Yet in the Account Manager, it clearly says the support is good until the end of 2019.   So I deactivated and reactivated both MC and Symphony.  I hope that solves the problem.  I probably won't know until tomorrow--the message pops up when I first turn on my computer each day no matter how many times I log on and off after that...

So if I do not get a message from Avid on Christmas morning, that will be a good thing!

    Happy Holidays to All

According to Marianna's post, I must deactivate and reactivate once every 365 days to keep my software alive.   But I'm running MC 2018.4, so theoretically I should have until April of 2019 to do this???

Re: Perpertual License "Expires" in 8 days????

Terry You have to deactivate/reactivate at renewal time, You can do that at any time, but in the meanwhile You won't be able to upgrade to a release past the expiration date. I wouldn't wait till the next expiration anyway. Happy new year!

Thanks for the explanation, Luca.  I performed the deactivate/reactivation this morning, so hopefully it is solved.

Re: Perpertual License "Expires" in 8 days????

    Hi,
Maybe you can help me too,
I have Perpetual M.C + Symphony Option license, which ends at January 7th.
Yesterday I renew my support plan with Videoguys for another year and got from them a
Redemption Code which I don't know where to put.
They sent me 2 links with examples of how to use it in the Master Account but none of them looks like mine.
It's the weekend now and no one to talk to.
Anyone knows how to use it?

BTW, my license is in a Dongle.

    Thanks
    Yair

Re: Perpertual License "Expires" in 8 days????

Hi Yair, I renewed with Avid, not a reseller, things might be different for You; it took a couple of days for the "My products" page to be aware of renewal, once the expiration date was updated I have had to download the dongle updater file (from Product links and downloads), and blast the dongle with the ApplicationManager. With weekends and holidays My products may take more than a couple of days to display the renewal, do not panic, You can keep working and have a grace period of one full month to complete the purchase, You might take care of this all from january the 2nd on. Happy new year, Luca

    Hi Luca,

After so many years with Avid, I whish Upgrades/Renew license... would be simple and flawless for once..

I'll keep what you wrote in mind and wait for Videoguys respond after the new year.

    Thanks a lot!

    Happy new year

Hi Yair, in the last few years renewal has been easier than it was before, as far as I'm concerned, YMMV.
