What's the difference of media processor vs op1a export

    Newb question here.

Im editing everything in uhd dnxhr these days.

I edit music videos that are all shot in slomo... The only way for me to multicam these slomo performances is to speed each one up, stack each clip on a sync timeline, then burn in timecode.

Before I would mixdown every clip. And add that to the group, but I wanted more of a batch process of every take/layer.

Now im subclipping every layer and doing a batch export of everything then consolidating those exports.

    The Main Question:

    Im exporting to dnxhr_lb..

But I noticed op1a seems a little quicker, or there were less things going on than media processesor.

So whats the difference between media processesor and op1a for dnxhr exports?

Does it do something different with audio?

    thanks!

Added feature request (since its related, i know theres a forum for that).  It would be cool if I could just highlight a bunch of sequences and it would just do a mixdown with audio of it.  Instead of me having to export these mixed down mxf's then linking and consolidating so I can group these originally slomo clips.    --- And yes I always make sure I backup my mixdowns since theyre not timecoded.

Ill add a screen shot later once this export of all my takes is done.

You are exporting DNxHR in low bitrate.

    This is your choice.

But how are you doing it?

SAS (Same as source) or by Avid Processor?

An example is that if you are working with AVC-100 Intra you can't export it as OP1a.

But you can by Avid Processor.

yeah, but exporting XDCAM from Avid Processor results in an OP1a file that broadcasters will accept.

honestly, i think there is no difference.

You can export AVC-Intra only by Avid Media Processor and SAS.

    Not by OP1a.

Re: What's the difference of media processor vs op1a export

yes, but Avid Media Processor still creates OP1a files.

Under the hood both options might be identcal or near identical.

The devs would know, as far as i cant tell only the codec selcetion is different.

Re: What's the difference of media processor vs op1a export

If the clips on my timeline are rendered as dnxhr_lb but I export at dnxhr_hqx

Is media processor exporting at a higher quality that what my clips were rendered at?

    thx

No, the file exported file might be bigger in HQX, but unless you relink the timeline to original footage it'll end up with DNxHR LB quality.

The export process maybe the same (for now) but the development is going into the Avid Media Processor route so its likely that will see improvements over the traditional export process.

Re: What's the difference of media processor vs op1a export

I could have been more clear with my last question.

The clips on my timeline are HQX but I usually render to uhd lb for snappier and lighter editing.

So if I export to hqx with media processor, it it using those lb renders, or is it re-processing to hqx.

    Thank you

Re: What's the difference of media processor vs op1a export

You mean, you do your effects rendering to LB.

My absolute bet would be, that you loose the quality.

You can clear the renders for a product, export and find out if reder time increases.

You could render to an ssd, i'll eat my hat if you loose snappyness in HQX then.
