Mount NEXIS Workspace from Mac Command line

    Hi all,

Is there a way to mount NEXIS workspaces from the command line on a Mac? We're looking to automate our project backups to local drives, and we're hoping to be able to mount workspaces and unmount workspaces via scripts, rather then requiring the workspaces to be premounted.

    Thanks!

You will still need to have the client installed but this example should work:

    mount.avidfos JohnnyAppleseed:password123@NEXIS-A/workspace /mnt/workspace -o umask=777

    Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply. The NEXIS client is currently installed, but running that command with one of our users/workspace filled in, Terminal throws the error:

    mount.avidfos is not found.

    Thanks

    maybe you need "mount_avid" command?

    Usage: mount_avid [options] <servername>:<workspacename> <mount point>

        Mounts an avidfs filesystem

    General options:

-o options  : standard mount options

-m mode     : maximum access modes (octal) allowed to filesystem

    Root user options:

-U name     : avidfs server user name to use [required]

-u user     : Unix user (uid or name) granted owner access to filesystem

-g group    : Unix group (gid or name) granted group access to filesystem

Re: Mount NEXIS Workspace from Mac Command line

    That's it! Thanks!

The below will mount a NEXIS parititon via command line on a mac:

    mount_avid -U user:password server:workspace /Volumes/workspace

This will then unmount the workspace using the command line:

    diskutil unmount /Volumes/workspace

    Thanks for your help DJFio[DB]!

Sorry, I gave you the Linux command.

Use the following command to mount a NEXIS workspace on a Mac:

        mount_avid -U <username>:<password> <virtual server name>:<workspace name> /Volumes/<mount point>

    Example:

        mount_avid -U administrator:secret AvidNEXIS:bot /Volumes/bot

Is there anything similar for Windows so one can use CMD or Power Shell?

    Thanks

Re: Mount NEXIS Workspace from Mac Command line

On Windows the Client Manager is just a simple UI that was made to allow users to easily mount workspaces. Workspaces can be mounted the same way any file system is mounted.

For example, from the Command Prompt:
    net use z: \\NEXIS_name\workspace_name password /USER:username

Or programmatically using the same underlying Windows calls that "net use" uses:
    WNetUseConnection();

The only thing to be aware of is that the NEXIS drivers need to load prior to the script.
