Slow playback timeline Avid MC 2018.5

I want to write a transcript of my footage, and playing the clip at 50% would make my life so much easer!

Can't find this option. I can only upspeed or rewind, but now slow timeline playback. I searched google and this forum for two days (because if this option exists I would save weeks of time) but I couldn't find the answer.

This is my first post here. (EDIT: I can see I posted before 5 years ago :)

I hope I'm at the right please. Cheers!

There is no direct way I know of to play at less than 1x play speed.

You could take clips into sequence and apply audio effects to them to playback at 50%...but you would be rendering the clips first.

    There is a way...

Map the Dynamic Play Forward button from the Command palette to your keyboard or whatever. Then open the Timeline settings and set Slow Start Speed to 4 steps.

Then, if you alt/click the Dynamic Play Forward, your timeline will start playing at 1/2 speed - 13fps in a 25fps project. A second alt/click takes it up a notch to 16fps, then 20, then finally to 25.

Similarly, alt/click Dynamic Play Reverse sends you backwards at 1/2 speed.

If you're already going at 1/2 speed forwards and you alt/click Dynamic Play Reverse, you go down a notch to 10fps, and more clicks slow you down more.

    Endless fun!

I stand corrected. I didn't realize that you could do the slower start with Dynamic Playback.

You learn something new every day!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

I did exactly as you wrote down, but my timeline plays at 100%. Maybe I alt-key is not working, I don't know - but I did all the steps four times and it doesn't start plauing at 50%

I talked to my co-worker and her solution was assigning the mouse shuttle to your keyboard and then you can slow your clip down, but you can't use your mouse then.

Btw sorry English is not my native language.

I will keep looking into it, maybe it is my version MC 2018.5

    Thanks again for your help

I've seen ths feature be a bit 'reluctant' to work on occasions. Try resetting your Timeline settings back to default and then have another go. Also, try setting the Dynamic Play Acceleration to 4 steps as well. I'm not sure why, but it seems to affect the initial slow start speed. BTW, I have my buttons mapped to F3 and F4 on the keyboard - don't know if the location matters...
