Import AAF to Avid media offline

    Hello,

I'm generating AAF files with external references to MXF's on Windows using AAF SDK. When I do import to Avid Media Composer (Version:8.9.3.47090.0) I have media offline. After a lot of experiments I found that SourceMob ID which generated automatically is not good for Avid. For example for locator:

    Object of Class: NetworkLocator
         URLString: "file:///Volumes/export%20aaf/AA633101.MXF"

    should be such mob ID:

    Object of Class: SourceMob
    MobID: { {0x6,0xa,0x2b,0x34,0x1,0x1,0x1,0x5,0x1,0x1,0xd,0x43}0x13, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, { 0x0a054150, 0x6281, 0x0580, { 0x0, 0x0, 0x85, 0x0, 0x2, 0x98, 0xc, 0x97 } } }

When I changed mob ID's in aaf file with hex editor - Avid did import without problem.

Could you explain why mob ID should have some link to media file? How I can generate such ID's for media files?

    Thanks,

    Yura.

Re: Import AAF to Avid media offline

    Hello,

I zipped 2 AAF files. ImcUnresolved.aaf on import in Avid says that media offline. ImcResolved.aaf - loaded without problem. Difference between 2 files only in Source Mob ID's. I need information how I can generate correct Mob ID on Windows...

    Thanks,

    Yura.

Re: Import AAF to Avid media offline

I'm sorry that I did not get the answer. I found that Avid demands that Source Mob ID's for external mxf files should be the same as file_package_umid from mxf metadata.

The request can be considered closed

Hi Yura, I am interested to learn about generating AAF externally to media composer. If you are developing a utility please post here.

    Thanks Martin

Hi Martin, I finished the development utility for Win32 for AAF export which is compatible with Avid. It is part of a big program. If you have some questions you can ask me directly by e-mail - yura_apalkov@mail.ru

    With best regards,

    Yura.

Re: Import AAF to Avid media offline

    Hello,

I met another problem with AAF import into Avid when external media is MOV files. The similar issue which was with MXF external - again Avid is looking for Source MobID. For MXF I retrieved this ID from mxf metadata but I don't know where to get this ID from mov file. Also if do export of AAF with external mov file in Da Vinci and try import to Avid I have offline media too. Could you give me some explanation? How correct generate Source MobID in AAF for Avid?

    Thanks,

    Yura.
