I updated my workstation to Windows 10 version 1803 Build 17134.1. I did not perceive any problems with MC:

The process takes between 60 to 90 minutes. As a precussor I would update Windows Defender and let it quick scan first. After doing 5 pcs that appears to streamline the actual update process.

I updated to Wn 10 64bit 1803 and all seemed ok UNTIL I tried to access my Mbox 3rd Gen..... The lights were on, but when I tried to change audio devices, I couldnt. I opened the Mbox software and it would switch between "Mbox connected/Not connected". I went to manage devices, the the Mbox would continuously appear and dissapear. I uninstalled the Mbox drivers and reintalled them........... Nothing... And the Mbox's lights would flash...... Seems like 1803 killed the driver.....  <sigh>...

Exactly the point I was making earlier about waiting until it had been thoroughly tested and approved.

Can you go back to a previous restore point?

I thinlk I fixed it. With the Mbox still attached to my computer, I uninstalled the driver, and with Device Manager, I unstalled Avid Mbox and Avid Mbox DFU. I then removed the Mbox from my computer, reinstalled the driver, re-attached the Mbox and------------ UP AND RUNNING!!

Unfortuately, Windows 10 will not let you simply avoid updating and stay with a configuration where everything runs well.    You can delay it, but can't avoid it.    That's the reason my Avid system is still on Win 7 Pro.   I've not done a Windows update in over 2 years and everything runs great.   But this system is off line except for the occasional Avid software update.

On my non-Avid computer--a new Win 10 Pro machine--the recent major update caused a driver issue with a very reliable printer.  Fixable, but time consuming and frustrating.

I have a fantastic editing assistant.  He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius!    Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g

Sure, we have several closed environmental management systems running Wondows 2000. This day and age however, with all the "cloud" thinking, only an up to date patched system stands any chance of being secure, and that is by no means certain.

With O&O Shutup10 that's exactly what you can do, as the screenshot shows...

I also have Windows 7 installed on workstations where I have intentionally not applied updates, but I cannot ignore the fact that at some point, programs like Avid & Resolve will stop working on this OS. Luckily this hasn't happened yet, but at some point I'm sure that Avid simply won't support Win 7 anymore.

Careful with O&O, backup Your working settings before You apply any changes, I ended up with an unusable Win10 because some of the tweaks are way too aggressive. On a couple of systems of mine Windows 10 self updated to the latest release and everything works fine (FWIW).

I am always wary of outside "utilities". I can say that MS runs a very extensive insider program and really solicits user input and experience for product improvement.

Yes, and on every Windows update one has to redo all the tweaks again, and the outside utility may not be aware of the changes in a given update. Before running such tools make sure that they're compatible with the running Windows version, or wait for an update of the tool itself!

You never know where product improvement ends and user profiling begins, just saying... The thing is that many privacy settings are not available for tweaking in the regular Windows settings app, and they come with a lot of background activity that I do not want to interfere with MC, but still outside utilities may break an otherwise working system, so use them at Your own risk, and make backups of the involved settings, just in case.

one thing that happens is that you need to reinstall the Nexis client.

And, with all threats that are out there today, you SHOULD make this update....(I have done it on serveral computers without problem, all HP Z240, Z4, Z6, connected to both ISIS & Nexis, no problems at all, MC 2018.4)
