i'm nervous to upgrade!!! can a mid-2011 iMac handle MC 2018.4?

hi all.  believe it or not, i'm still using version 6 of MC, but want to update my machine and MC software.  my iMac currently still runs Lion (10.7.5) but i am going to install El Cap (10.11.6) OS today, and then upgrade to the new subscription-based MC.  but will my older machine be able to run the latest MC 2018.4 without problems?  it's a mid 2011 iMac with the 2.8 GHz i7 and 16 gigs of RAM, and a Radeon 6770M 512 MB card.  some people have said i should stick with MC releases from earlier in 2017.  any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

When faced with this, I often do the upgrades on an external drive to try it out, that way you can go back to what works.

I have an ssd in a thunderbolt enclosure for this, spinning disks are too slow for this I think.I can’t remember if your iMac supports thunderbolt?

To be clear, you install your new OS and mediacomposer on the external drive and using your start up disk preferences you boot up from that external drive.

if it all works you can clone your new system to that external drive and keep it as a backup of a “good system”

FWIW I have a mid 2008 Mac Pro dual processor with 24GB's RAM on OS 10.10.5 happily running 2018.4.  The machine is not doing any really heavy lifting but after a period with MC First it is now regularly knocking out short projects weekly with first 2018.3 and now 2018.4.

thanks for that info.  2008 and going strong, pretty cool!  love my iMac, glad it can still do what i need after 7 years.  El Cap and 2018.4 MC install both went smoothly.  looking foward to hammering out some projects with this new config.
