    ISIS Client Manager stalling Windows 7 computers

    This started happening about a week ago so we think a recent Windows update (maybe the March security roll-up or the follow up security patch fix to the March roll-up) may have instigated the issue.

    When booting up a Windows 7 computer that has ISIS Client Manager 4.7.11 the computer is almost completely unresponsive for nearly 10 minutes just after the ISIS Client Manager loads. There are very few things that will work, such as opening Windows Explorer, but most things will not. Cannot open Avid, cannot connect to any ISIS servers, Device Manager won't open, Computer Management won't open, the list goes on. After about 10 minutes the system instantly becomes responsive again and everything is working normally. On some machines we have heard the Windows alert sound for a Device Connect Failure, even without any external devices connected.

    We traced the issue down to ISIS Client Manager. Uninstall ISIS Client Manager and the system bootup is very responsive again. However, since the ISIS Client Manager hasn't changed in long period of time we believe this was instigated by a recent Windows security update. We have installed Nexis Client Manager (2018.3) and the problems don't come back on these test machines. We are now in the process of converting all of our systems to use the new Nexis Client Manager.

    Can others confirm issues with ISIS Client Manager? Can Avid put out a warning that ISIS Client Manager is now crippled and should be replaced with Nexis Client Manager?

    We have not experienced this issue. Have you tried disabling it in Windows startup then starting it manually? It might be hanging waiting for network configuration to resolve.

    Nexis client is approved to be used with ISIS. So if that provides you with a more stable experience, then yes I would utilize it.

    I strongly encourage you to update to the 18.3 NEXIS client that is freely available on the Avid Download Center. We aren't looking at the ISIS client at all.
