    Qualified iMac Ghz

I was looking at the "Qualified Apple Mac Systems for Media Composer" document here:

    http://resources.avid.com/supportfiles/attach/Mac_Current_CPU_Specifications.pdf

And saw the most recent 2017 iMacs defined as:

    • iMac Retina 5K 27" 4.2 Ghz i7 Quad core Mid 2017
    • iMac Retina 4K 21.5" 3.6 Ghz i7 Quad core Mid 2017

Is the 5K what is necessitating the higher Ghz?

Oh, so there are two 2017 27" iMacs that fit the i7 bill, the difference being:

    • Radeon Pro 575 with 4GB video memory
    • Radeon Pro 580 with 8GB video memory

And that list only qualifies the 2012 Mac Mini, but there is a 2014 Mac Mini with an i7, why was that left out?

    Re: Qualified iMac Ghz

I have the i7 5k iMac with the top 8gb graphics card and all seems well, except for background services, which I can’t get to work. Also some avid crashes on launch. It is still too slow to edit h264  AmA footage. Transcoding is still time consuming, but rendering exporting, encoding all are much improved over my older iMac (about a 2015 model with 2gb graphics).

I mostly do long form at Dnx 120 with a bit of quick turn around short form.

The thing I am most pleased about is davinci resolve speed with the new graphics card.

some users have complained about fan noise with the i7, but I haven’t found that to be an issue, though I do get out of the room on long renders etc. Beware of Apple ram prices, get third party ram!
