    dnxhd 80/85/100 subsampling?

    hello

I keep reading that dnxhd 80 (or 85 or 100 - depending on the frame rate) is sub-sampled at 1440x1080

Where/how can I see that in the Avid?  Is it still the case or is it now full raster size?

Yes that was my experience when using DNX 85 last time I used it.

The 1920 pixels were sub sampled to 1440 with non-square pixels rather like hdv

it works ok, but does cause some problems If you need to use encoding software later,  that is it needs to support non square pixels and reformat your 1440 x 180 tp 1920*1080

Oh! I checked, its now 1920 full raster, thats great, thanks for bringing this up, because I had stoped using it for offline, because of the encoding problems.

great.  I thought it was but just couldnt find anything to suggest otherwise.

Could you lead me to your findings?  thanks.

It used to be the TR resolutions (Thin Raster) that subsampled down to 1440.

Can you email me your system ID and My Avid so I can get a case created and a verification to take place please?

Martin - I have yours and will add you to the case.

Pat, I think TR/Thin Raster is an HDV-specific thing. DNxHD80/85/100 definitely used to be subsampled -- maybe even still.

See https://www.avid.com/static/resources/US/documents/dnxhd.pdf, see for exampe DNxHD85 in the middle of page 9, and note the '*' next to its 1920x1080 frame size, then note the annotiation on page 10, which says "subsampled to 1440x1080".

    There's also a 720 version called DNxHD50, which is subsampled to 960x720.

I know MM is digging around for us to get definitive answers on this.

    Re: dnxhd 80/85/100 subsampling?

I did a practical experiment, I transcoded some HD Dnx footage to DnxHR 85, checked the raster column in the statistics bin view, which detailed 1920 x1080. Next I exported same as source QuickTime and opened that file in QuickTime Pro which confirmed the size of 1920*1080. I then encoded the file to H264 in iFFmpeg (where I used to have to correct the aspect ratio to 16*9),and I got the same 1920*1080 result. Very useful offline Rez!

    Chris from Customer Support writes:

In a 1080i/59.94 Project format with Raster Dimension 1440x1080 it's only DNxHD 100 and HDV 1080i.
DNxHD 80 is available on a 1080p/24and 23 project format in both 1920 and 1440 raster dimension.

Also, how do you select between the 1920 and 1440 width options?
