QT installed but MC First says not at opening

    Hi,

I've installed Quicktime 7.7.9 as the way is recommanded on my PC before installing Media composer first.

When i open MC first a message appears "QT is not installed on this system", and then "an error have been occured with avid" when I click ok.

But anyway avid opens well. I managed to create project, to import or link jpg, wav and some mp4 (but not all) and managed to made a film.

But impossible to link or import mov.

I've reinstalled QT and Avid 3 times yet. A idea please ?

    Thanks, Naesh

    Hello Naesh,

Do you also get an error about iLok before or after that QT message?

    Thanks,

    Naesh

A few things that could be tripping you up is the amount of RAM and that you are on an i5.

For Mac - 6 GB minimum, 8 GB or more recommended; 16 GB or more when working with UHD or high frame rate media

For Windows - 8 GB minimum, 16 GB or more recommended; 24 GB or more recommended when working with UHD, large projects.  You only have 6GB per your specifications - need more RAM

Also if you look at the system requirements,  we dont list any i5's - take a look and see whihc system closely matches yours.... http://resources.avid.com/supportfiles/attach/Windows_Current_CPU_Specifications.pdf and see if there is anything you can do to your comuter to beef it up a notch.

Re: QT installed but MC First says not at opening

    Marianna,

thanks for reply and spec details. I know it would be hard to work with.

But it doesn't explain the QT error message.

I managed to work on MC first with .mp4 :
    h264 mpeg 4 avc (part 10 avc 1) ycbcr 709 / 1920*1080
    25i /planar 4:2:0 yuv / audio : mp4a 48khz

but it won't link or either import .mov (error message : "this file is not support for import", and then "unkwown file")

.mov with codec dnxhd (AVdn) 1920*1080 25i/s planar 4:2:2:yuv
    PCM S16 48Khz 16 bits

These files do work (play, import, export) on a friend's computer i3 with only 2GB ram, on media composer 6 ! isn't it strange ?

Do you think there is a another solution for my Media composer First and QT ?

    thanks a lot,

    Naesh.

    Naesh,

Go into the Windows application tool (right click on the Windows icon and choose Settings->Apps). See if you have the Avid Codecs LE or Avid Codecs PE installed. These are required for Quicktime to decode DNxHD.

The difference between the two is the PE version contains the MPEG Codec, which is a licensed Codec. You get this with MC. I don't know if it comes with MCF.

If neither is installed, look in the Application Manager under Plug-ins and see if either is there. If neither one is there, the LE pack is freely available at

Re: QT installed but MC First says not at opening

    Thanks Dave for your message,
avid codecs PE v2.7.3 is correctly installed.
I've tried to installed codecs LE instead, from your link,
but there is always a QT error (not installed) + an other error window opens (see pix below) before MC first manage to open.
MC First then works but no way to import .mov
Do you think there is an another way to install QT or to choose a another release ?

    Thank you,

    Naesh.

Does seem a QT install thing. Did You install QT before MC? I guess You've installed the QT stuff with no player because of the security hole, can You try a full install and see if the QT player works?

    Marianna and Lucas,

thank you very much for helping. I 've tried a full install of Quicktime and it works well.

I managed to either link or import .mov and .mp4

You confirm otherwise there's no way to import ac3 files for free in Media Composer First at the moment ?

    Thanks,

    Naesh.

Re: QT installed but MC First says not at opening

Since You managed to link/import, is the 'QT not installed' message gone away? As for AC3, It used to self activate when first dealing with such files on MC, don't know what is like with MCF. And yes, in order to ingest footage You can either link or import, what else would You want to be able to do?

Re: QT installed but MC First says not at opening

There is no more 'QT not installed' message after full install QT. Thank you Luca.
