All drives filtered out in Media Creation

I'm running MC 8.9 on a Mac OS 10.12.6. Every time I try to add a dissolve I get a message that the source drive in unavailable. When I go into Media Creation settings, all drives have been filtered out and there's no way to change that. Nothing is checked off in the Drive filtering box. All the drives have Read and Write permissions. I tried creating a new project and new user and that didn't change anything either. Any other possible fixes out there?

    Thanks in advance!

Re: All drives filtered out in Media Creation

Has anything been changed on your machine? new OS update? new external drives? media compoesr upgrade?

We see this with exfat drives, with borked user profiles or site/mcstate settings. This will also happen in an interplay environment when a user fails to login - i'm doubting you are in an interplay environment, so make sure you didn't install any interplay components on your system.

what happens if you launch the media composer console (cmd+6) and type in "alldrives"? do the drive filtering settings change?

Re: All drives filtered out in Media Creation

Having this exact same problem (not seeing one of my ext. drives in Media Creation setting). Weird thing is that MC is actually reading media off of it, so I know it can read it.

I found a very old posting that said if the drive name had any symbols in it, it may cause MC not to see it. I corrected that.

I tried NYnutz suggestion also, but no avail.

What are your system specifications....  ?  Can you edit your profile and add them. Makes it easier to help that way.

Re: All drives filtered out in Media Creation

I have a friend (no, really!) with this exact problem. He has a drive with an Avid MediaFiles/MXF folder structure on it, which Media Composer will not reliably 'see' as a media drive.

We have tried all known witchcraft, but It still disappears from the available drives list regularly.

In his case, repairing the drive in Disk Utility is a temporary solution, but does not survive a reboot of the Mac.

In every other respect, the drive appears to function normally.

Re: All drives filtered out in Media Creation

    Things to check:

    1. Read/Write permissions on the drive.

    2. Mac OS doesn't want files with Read/Write permissions on the root level of the boot drive.  If you override the permissions to allow this, repairing permissions in Disk Utility will probably reset them back.

    3. Non-native disk formats usually won't work.  No MS-DOS or NTFS on a Mac without additional software. ExFAT doesn't work for Consolidation, if I recall correctly.

    4. Illegal characters in the file path break things.  Illegal in this case means anything other than a number or a letter is suspect.  Got a drive named 12/25 Xmas ?  That won't work.

    5. Check the Drive Filtering setting in on the first tab Media Creation settings to see if the media is on a excluded drive.

    6. Try the "alldrives" Console command.  If it works, you'll likely need to do it at each launch.

Must think of something clever to go here...
