Of course it depends on your H264-Settings. But I tested the same settings on AME and Compressor and Compressor was always faster.
I just encoded a ProRes444 (~170GB, 95min) into my standard H264-Setting (720p, 5MBit/s, 1pass CBR) in 9 minutes.
Same setting in AME needs 21 minutes.
All files from and to the internal SSD.
H264 doesn't split into segments. But the setting is activated. In compressor you can choose Instances, my setting is on 1 Instance. More is not better in this case.

Hey there - I've got a project coming up in May and need to buy a second system. Obviously you can't promise anything but is there any chance that the iMac Pro will get certified before then? Or highly unlikely?
I would also like an ETA on an official Avid certification for the (not so) new iMac Pro.
Job asked that I chime in.... Thanks Job.
There was a Nexis bug that was fixed and will be in the 2018.3 Nexis releasecomig shortly No changes for MC were required.
However, New iMac Pros have both thunderbolt and USB 3.0. Dongle works fine in USB connector.
The MBP have 4 USB-C ports (with thunderbolt). You would need an adapter or dock to plug in a USB 3.0 dongle.
we have the Caldigit USB-C dock in house which works with the dongle.
I expect approval imminently and will let the moderators like Job know so they can post when they are live.

Would you all that use it for transcoding feel comfortable with it exporting videos for long periods of time?
I've seen some rather amateur reviewers on YouTube ding it for insufficient cooling during gaming stress tests, for example.
From the AVID Blog:
Avid Media Composer 2018.4 is now supported on Apple’s iMac Pro. Note that the iMac Pro will require the NEXIS 18.3 client.
You can find a complete list of qualified Mac and Windows workstations, laptops, and Operating Systems in the ReadMe document.
