    Sierra security update

Has anybody installed the Sierra security update 2017-002 recently? .. Wondering if it will impact Media Composer performance at all . Seems a sensible thing to do given current issues with meltdown etc.

    Hi flashavid,

    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

Nothing official about this yet,you can try the steps below, but  this will most likely reset permissions on the MACs local HD, so please check these permissions once completed.

Permission changed for regular domain users to work post software install

    • Macintosh HD:  Changed Everyone to Read & Write, but not apply to enclosed items. (If this is set to Read, there is a warning dialog every time you launch MC saying you will not be able to write to any drive.)
    • Gave Everyone - Read & Write permissions and applied to enclosed items for the following:
      • Macintosh HD\Applications\Avid
      • Macintosh HD\Applications\Avid Media Composer
      • Macintosh HD\Library\Application Support\Avid
    • To prevent DMS log issues in the editor add "Domain User Group Name" with Read & Write to the Sharing & Permissions section for the following folders, and Applying to enclosed items.
      • Macintosh HD\Users\Shared\AvidMediaComposer\Avid FatalErrorReports
      • Macintosh HD\Users\Shared\AvidMediaComposer\DSMLogFiles
    • To prevent AMA linking issue
      • Changed the Macintosh HD\users\shared\avid media composer\ama management folder and everything under it to read\write

    Thanks,

    RalphC

    Hi Ralph,

thanks for your reply - it's going to take me a while to understand it - but are you saying that if I install the security update then it's likely that all the permissions will get shot ?

    Re: Sierra security update

So if I download the security update, will I have the same issues I had when I upgraded to High Sierra?

Avid MC v2018.5, macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, iMac 21.5-inch, late 2015 (purchased new on Jan. 2017), , Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory: 16 GB 1867... [view my complete system specs]
