    Re: GPU upgrade recommendations

    pierreh:
... And my GTX 980Ti simply is insanely fast with Resolve thanks to CUDA.

But... if you're primary editing with MC, I would not recommend a Nvidia GPU. I'm having a lot of annoying glitches when I'm using Full Screen Playback.

Lots to consider for upgrade recommendations.

    1. I agree with the GTX 980ti being "insanely fast with Resolve thanks to CUDA. I have the MSI 6GB card. Exporting a 2:22 file to h.264 from MC took 18:00. From MC to AAf to Resolve 12.5 (14 still buggy!) to h.264 took 3:52!

    2. I don't have any glitches because it is in a Netstor as a GPU. The Quadro 4000 is in the MP as the GUI. Being that the PCIe slots max at 300w, a 250w 980ti leaves very little. In addition to his other PCIe cards the 300w max would be surpassed.

    3. "How to get the extra power to the card, and driver installation?" Not familiar with the 2010's but if anything like the 2008's follow the pwr cable from the card to the logic board. On the 2008's there is an extra (empty) port right next to it. Plug in a 6-8 cable from the board to the card and a 6-6 from the board (extra port) to the card. Web drivers available from nVidia's site.

    4. What's in store for MC 9-10? There has been talk about "real" gpu acceleration. Will it be acomplished thru AMD, nVidia (CUDA) or both? When this is "finally" done the need to chase RAID speeds and 12GB Titan cards will end! Super Angry

    5. The on going battle between Apple/AMD and nVidia. With Maxwell, Pascal and upcoming Volta nVidia will probably continue to write Mac drivers. This is regardless of what Apple does to get in the way! If you run any legacy apps in 10.8.5 keep in mind thre are zero drivers for the Maxwell cards (9xx).

    6. As you (flashavid) narrow the choice of cards, cross reference all apps to be used.
