    Errors Opening 7.0.5-7.0.7 on 10.10.5

    Hey all,

So this is a problem I've had before and was resolved by installing an earlier version of MC7 in the past. This was the thread: http://community.avid.com/forums/t/180249.aspx

Now it's rearing it's head again and earlier versions aren't working. I'd love to run 7.0.7 if possible.

    My system is a 27 inch i7 3.4ghz iMac mid 2011 32gb RAM running 10.10.5

The exact same error is present in installations of 7.0.6.3-7.0.7. From the others on the forum who have experienced it, it usually is an issue with too little RAM but my 32gb should be plenty. I did recently upgrade the RAM on this system from 16gb to 32gb and haven't opened Avid on it since so it's possible Avid is somehow not recognizing it. The error occurs when the progam is starting up with the step "Initializing Hardware" I've got a Mojo DX but the error occurs if it's connected or not.

My laptop which had the earlier problem running 7.0.6.3 also had it's RAM upgraded from 8gb to 16gb and is on 10.10.5. It has no problem running 7.0.7.

Another strange wrinkle I've seen is when I try to install earlier versions of 7.0.6 I got the same errors I've pasted above until 7.0.6.2 all the way down to 7.0.5 which give me these errors:

I was able to successfully open 8.8.5 on the iMac but would prefer to remain on a workable version of 7. My next step is to try a newer OS but I'd rather not if possible. Any thoughts?

So it looks like a no go on a newer OS as Yosemite is the latest one compatible with 7.0.7. I've done a clean install of 10.10.5 and 7.0.7 and still find the same error. I really wish I would have known about this last month before the promotional upgrade to 8.8 expired. I am still confused how my laptop can run 7.0.7 with half the RAM and why the trial of 8.8.5 had no issues.

    Pete

Which error are you still getting - the APMI error or the Assertion Failed error.   MC 7.0.5  - 7.0.7 work with 10.10.5.

MC 7.0.x requires at a min of 8GB of RAM. Some features might require more RAM and specific hardware.

Whats the scoop on your laptop config ....

you can email me directly if you like

Hello, I am having the exact same error message on my Avid MC. It is 7.0.7 Interplay Edition, running on a MacBook Pro (Early 2015), which is equipped with a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and is running off of Sierra (OS 10.12.6). Would love any help. Thanks!

Media Composer 7.0.7, OS 10.10.5, 27 inch iMac, 32GB RAM.

I am having the same problem on numerous machines, and here is how far I've gone fixing it:

I tried removing the site settings files (MCState, Site Settings.avs and .xml, Site Atttributes)

And Media composer still would not launch, similar error code:

    Assertion failed: m_pPrimaryBufferPtr

    [/Snapshots/relengmtnlion3_1494212484/coresw/core/Projects/Mac/../../src/player/ALocateBufferMgr.c:456]

Trial and error and we found that Site_Attributes is not rebuilding, even after checking permissions to make sure its parent folders have read/write for everyone.  I copied and pasted the settings folder from another machine that works (lucky to have many of them here) and now Avid opens.

This has been a successful fix on 3 machines now, which allows us to work again.

But it's not completely fixed.  Any problems that Media Composer was having which we would normally fix by trashing and rebuilding all the settings are not fixed by copying them in from another machine which does not have these problems.  Right now, on two machines, we have bins containing media which is located on our Isis server.  But the clips in one bin still look like they are AMA linked (with the circle) and the clips another bin do not have the squiggly line under them, meaning they would either be locally connected or offline.  But in fact they are all online.

I am having the same problems.

    MC 7.0.7

    OS 10.10.5

    32GB RAM

After much trial and error, this is what I believe is causing the problem.  Your site settings are corrupt, and in 10.10.5, on 7.0.7, Site_Attributes does not rebuild when trashed!

I have been trying this with several machines.  If we copy settings over from another computer, Avid opens.  But Site_Attributes not rebuilding is a major problem and I'm not sure what we should do next.

There are quirky things going on which rebuilding settings should fix, but we can't rebuild them.  Even copying in Site_Attributes from another machine and rebuilding the others stiil leaves us with a buggy avid with icons in bins displaying incorrect information (avid is really on ISIS but shows icons which say it's either offline or AMA linked).

If I remove Site_Attributes on any fully functioning machine, Avid will not launch (crash upon Initializing Hardware) but then if I restore the one I deleted, back to normal.

    Hi Marianna,

Was there ever an official fix to this? I have recently downgraded one of my systems to 10.10.5 and put 7.0.7 MC on it an am having these same APMI and Assertion failed errors. I have 16gb Ram, iMac 27", i7, had run this version before no issues. Had to update it temporarily to v8.10 on a subscription but have erased and reinstalled everything clean and now it won't work as described above on 10.10.5/v7.0.7 for which I have  perpetual lic.

Been an all day adventure and super drag....would love to know if there is a real fix?

    Thanks,
    Dale

What version of the Nablet plug in are you using?

    Hi All,

What was the verdict on this situation.
I am in it exactly as well:

    AVID SYSTEM DUMP - Mon Sep  3 17:15:29 2018

    Assertion failed: m_pPrimaryBufferPtr
    [/Snapshots/relengmtnlion3_1494212484/coresw/core/Projects/Mac/../../src/player/ALocateBufferMgr.c:456]

I know my laptop is under powered but it was running MC 7.0.7 perfectly well in OS 10.10.5, then after a full wipe and re-install to freshen it up, Assertion error pops up and growls at me. I've uninstalled and re-installed lower versions of MC ( 7.0.6, 7.0.4 ) and gotten even longer an more incomprehensible warnings ( identical to the ones at the start of this thread in the same situation actually).

    System specs:

      L3 Cache:    3 MB
      Memory:    8 GB

    OS 10.10.5

Fresh install of everything, no other media software other than VLC.
