    Prores workflow

    Hi all,

I'm going to be editing with pro res 422 (1920x1080) footage shot from an Alexa. I'm editing with Avid media composer 8.6.5, am i right in thinking that I can just import the .movs into Avid and the .movs will be re-wrapped into MXF? Is this the best way to imgest into Avid?

If I had the option to edit with DNX .movs would Avid import the DNX.movs faster than pro res .movs?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Avid MC supports both codecs natively.

You may want to AMA link to the MOV files and consolidate. AMA linking has more features than traditional import including LUT support.

    Re: Prores workflow

    Hi Dom and Michael,

Working with MC 8.9.4 I've been able to successfully consolidate and cut with ProRes422 media from an Amira, and then output that with my usual workflow (Output --> AMA File Export...) wihtout a hitch so far.

Have either of you experienced problems anywhere in the process with consolidating ProRes QT's vs transcoding them to DNxHD?  In my experience, any time spent transcoding triples ingest time.  I prefer to consoldiate everything (XDCAM, XAVC, etc.).

Have consolidated ProRes MXF files (created by Avid) proven to be just as stabile as DNxHD provided it's a Mac based edit environment?

    Re: Prores workflow

We have shows that are ProRes from beginning to end using Media Composer.

The most common issue we have is Avid unable to consolidate some ProRes file. These files often are generated from third-party software that depends on FFMPEG encoders.
