Re: Benchmarks for those who build their own computers.

I have been trying for over a year...replaced the psu, cpu, mobo...Its still happening.  I have run check disk, clean installs, memtest...etc..

I am stumped and have not found anyone to help me without paying which i do not want to do.  It just loses power and restarts.  The error codes just point to a power issue which everywhere I have looked have no solutions to.

    Its pretty crazy.

Yes I am going to install windows 10. I didnt do the upgrade when it was free last year or two years ago because I was told not to because of avid.  I really cant imagine its an operating system issue.

Re: Benchmarks for those who build their own computers.

So I ordered the PSU, GPU, SSD, CPU Cooler so far.

I cant decide on a MOBO.  The MSI X299 SLI Plus seems to be a good fit for cheaper than the asus rog strixx 299 gaming board.  I was talking to a guy at frys and usually I feel like the people there know there stuff but not today so I was hesitant.

I am going to buy the 7820x and then Ram to go with the MOBO when I decide.

anyone have any thoughts on the MSI board?

Just my two cents -  What you have looks good -   here is what I would look into

    1. Check gigabyte MB with thunderbolt  - just think of future
    2. PSU problay is enough but think about at least an 850 (I got 1000 - maybe overkill?) did calucaltions and thought about future .  You shoud calculate and see if 750 is enough
    3. Consider if your MB has enough slots - for future - maybe a raid card? Masybe BM card.
    4. i9 I think has 44 lanes - I know it is expensive
    5. Make sure you have enough USB 3 and 3.1 - been using it and it is great
    6. I would go for a minium of 32 gigs - I guess you can upgrade when prices drop (question is when?)
    7. Does your case have enough room for additional drives?
    8. Is your case easy to work in?  A tight case is a pain.
I have built several edit machnes - at timesI went the inexpensive route when I should not have.  But we all have budgets.

    good luck

Re: Benchmarks for those who build their own computers.

yes the PSU should be fine.

Yes there are enough PCI E slots.

i9 does have 44 and this i7 has 28 lanes

Plenty of usb 3.0 and 3.1

G Skill ripjaw v 2x16 ram right now..if and when it drops I will get two more.

Plenty of room in the case for more drives.  I am only going to put two more sata drives in the case and then rest of storage will be external in a 4 bay mediasonic case.

Phanteks Enthoo Pro is a full tower case and should be plenty of space.  I actually am not putting much in there so lot of room!

Yea budget is an issue right now for me and a catch 22.  We lost our sponsors and most of the funding for the show I have worked on for you 9 years so i only have a little work but the catch 22 is without a stable functioning setup I cant do any!

When and if work picks back up or I can find some new gigs I can always upgrade the CPU and sell this one add ram.

I think I am going to put a cooler master 240 radiatior in also.

I am using the X299 A prime and the 7820x - no issues

If using an air cooler, get the biggest that will fit in the case!

    Thanks,

I think I am going to grab the cooler master 240 if it is in at frys when I go there in a minute.

MSI Z370 Gaming i5 8400 Six Core Windows 10 on an Apacer M.2 PCIe MC 2018.9 on a 500 Gb SSD Adata DDR 4 memory  it is an success for me but then I do not extend to long heavy edits I have had good results with MSI boards for some time now
