    Re: 8.6.3 Crashes on startup

Just confirming that I am successfully using the Magic Bullet Looks update from April (v3.1.6).

I am, however, running MC 8.6.2.... (not 8.6.3). Not that it should make a difference. Using O/S 10.11.6.

    Hi ERTZUI FILM,

Did you set new profile and trash MCstate? BTW I sent you a pm regarding the download.

Hello Ralph! Thanks for the PM. I had already contacted support on this and they helped out with both a solution to the problem and a safe download link to 8.6.1.

I haven't been the first to call up support on that since there has been awareness of this problem. It seem like, and it worked for me, removing 3rd party plugins from the AVX2 folder solves the crash-at-launch issue after installing MC 8.6.3. This is obviously a serious issue for many of us having to go through the hassle of reinstalling or updatting 3rd party plugins to make 8.6.3 work. I personally will go back to 8.6.1. This is a problem that AVID should adress officially, IMO.

PS_Trying to solve this cost me half a day of editing. Who's gonna pay for that?

The Matrox unit has nothing to do with the crash, my guess is that you have an old avx plugin installed, update or uninstall , begin with moving all avx plugins to the desktop and test, then move one at the time back to the avx folder

Uninstall 8.6.3 and install 8.6.1, if it works, stick to that version and see if it eventually gets resolved in 8.6.4 which I doubt. Also note that Matrox is not going to develop further drivers for that box.

How do we ask Avid to resolve this Matrox issue, I really don't want to have to spend more money on upgrades...I hate to even think it but it could push me to Adobe.....

Is this blackmail...? Feel free to go! Stick out tongue

Your Matrox is a 5 years old product, if not more. It's a miracle that it's still working to this day. Matrox decided to pull the plug on it because it's probably making them lose more money than they earn, and you want Avid to fix this problem? That's a bit far fetched...

How about updating your equipment? If you're a pro (ie, you get paid to edit), then it's part of the maintenance of your equipment, there are much better products out there, Matrox Mini&Co have had their days.

If not, do you really need to update?

No definately not blackmail, I'm very happy with my current set up - mostly output for HD so the matrox still works great. But your right it probably is time to update my system! I've been looking at blackmagic's range of products...can you recommend any other products?

And I´m doing weekly delayed mobile livestream playouts using my Matrox units , Mini and Monarch.

The problem might be the OS, if you need the latest Apple OS it will not work well with your old hardware, I use 10.10.5 myself

I'm currently using 10.11.6, and it's only since the latest avid update I have encountered problems. If it's a simple fix, I believe there are probably enough users out there with Matrox gear to justify a quick look....a tall order I know!

So, if your editing income is more important than some Apple features ( it is to me ) just set up a new drive with 10.10.5

Yep that's the best solution, if you've been on Avid long enough, you'll know how to stick to a sweet spot when you have one. So set up a second partition on your Mac and dedicate it to Media Composer, no other apps except for a couple of harmless small apps (mine has the stock apps and I added Compressor, Handbrake and MPEGStreamclip, nothing else). Choose the system that works best with Avid - 10.10 or 10.9 come to mind - and install the correct drivers. Once it's all fine tuned, don't update untill you reallly really need. You'll be a happy editor for a long time, with a very stable system.

Your other partition can have all the other stuff.

Suggestions? BMD products are not bad, I prefer the underdog AJA, but I'm not using either regularly. I used to have a Matrox and loved it, hey it was the very first third party box Avid allowed on v5.5! But when v6 came along, the 3rd party I/O never quite worked right. One day I got fed up and got a second hand Mojo DX. Been stable and snappy ever since.
