    UHD 50p relink

    Hi.

    I successfully relinked HD 1080/50i to UHD25p. I successfully relinked HD 720/50p to UHD50p.

Now we shot on UHD 50p but edited in 1080/50i.

The rushes were transcoded in 1080/50i. The video is edited in 1080/50i.

We would like to keep a UHD master of the video.

But i'm not able to relink from 1080/50i rushes to original UHD/50p.

    What can be a workaround?

    Thanks

You have to do it manually.

When you transcoded, you should have seen a warning dialog saying that when you transcode frame rates, you will not be able to relink to the originals.  The transcode begins only after you accept that dialog.

50i and 25p can be relinked to each other - they're both 25 full frames per second.  However, 50p and 50i are different frame rates, and cannot be relinked.

Going forward, you should either edit in 50p when you shoot 50p, OR transcode to the "source" frame rate in the transcode dialog.  This is an option in MC8.  This way, you don't break the relink relationship between the original and the transcode.

    Re: UHD 50p relink

I ran into this recently and there was no warning dialog. I specifically selected transcode to source, not project but I didn't notice that 'use project framerate' was selected by default. After this, there was no way to relink to my camera files. Maybe a poor default setting...

BTW - Project was set to 1080p30 while I shot my footage in 1080p29.97... Fortunately it was just a test project and a reminder to watch what the heck I'm doing ;-)
