    Calculator

    Ok, a small request :)

Opening the calculator in a 25fps project - it shows 30fps non drop as default instead of the projects current framerate... It always has, as long as I can remember :)

    Thanks
    Fredrik

    Hi Fredrik,

do you have the latest version of MC, i.e. 8.5? I guess that from version 8.2 the calculator works fine (when I open 25p project the calculator has 25 fps).

I just tried opening the calculator on 8.5 in a 1080i/50 project, and the calculator opened at 30 non-drop.

On 8.5 here with PAL 25i, 25P, 1080 50i and 1080 25P projects here the calculator opens in all of them at 30 non drop. (I have not made a new user since MC 6.0 so that may make a difference)

I just tried opening a 50i project with a brand new user and the calculator opened in 30 non-drop, so I don't think that's it.

So, don't put this one on high priority guys - more a "buggin' me" than actual bug ;)

I don't know anything about programming, but it seems like it should be relatively easy to have the calculator open up at the same frame rate as the project. (Of course in real life it's probably one of those things that would break something important, like the ability to play back video.)

Either way, this is the sort of change that would make Media Composer seem like a "smarter" application to me. It doesn't make sense that the calculator doesn't know what the project frame rate is.

    Re: Calculator

First, let me say that I totally agree with all of the above.  I suspect that the reason such an obvious thing hasn't been done is that it's in a block of code written a long time ago, and no provision was ever made for it.  The person who wrote the code didn't comment it, and has long ago left Avid.  And so on...

But it really would be nice if someone could address it!!!

    Re: Calculator

    I'm currently on MC 8.6.5

I have the old situation where the Calculator always opens as 30fps no matter the Project Format.

HOWEVER I discovered a way that makes this work as people have requested; If I open the Calculator and change it to 25fps AND leave it open, then when I shutdown Composer and reopen it (a complete Quit, not just change Projects) then the Calculator will be open on starup and be set to 25fps!

Seems that somewhere along the line, MC is able to remember the frame rate setting of the Calculator window. It would be great to find that bit of code and build it into either a Setting or the MC State...
