External monitoring using a Quadro 4000 card and a Dreamcolor screen.

    Hi,

I'd like to look into a way of doing proper REC 709 color correction / grading from my Media Composer 8.3 station.

    I am currently running:

    A Windows 7 HP Z400 with with 25 Gigs of RAM, a 6-core W3690 3.47Ghz processor and a Nvidia Quadro 4000 video card.

But am actually building a new station:

    A Windows 10 HP Z420 with 16 Gigs of RAM, a 8-core E5-1680 V2 3.0Ghz processor and a Nvidia Quadro 4000 video card.

Media composer itself is running on an Intel Solid State drive, and my work disk is connected externally through a eSata passthrough that plugs directly on one of my motherboard SATA port.

    My question is:

Can I run an external HP Z24X Dreamcolor monitor along with my two regular computer monitors using only my Nvidia Quadro 4000 card? (It has two DisplayPort outputs and a DVI output).

If not, what device do I need to feed video to my eventual Dreamcolor monitor, knowing that it only has DisplayPort in (no SDI), and knowing tha it's possible my Z420 might not have Thunderbolt support (preventing me from using a device like the Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Mini Monitor Playback Device for example. I read somewhere that thunderbolt MIGHT work on the Z420, but only on later iterations, which I'm not sure I have on my eBay bought machine. Maybe I need a different device to output to the Dreamcolor?)

    What do you think?

Thank you for any advice you might provide!

Matrox devices have worked excellent for me during all these years and they still do , I´m using a Philiphs 42" LCD wallscreen or a projector to a 100" screen for the final view.

Also be aware that Media Composer isn't supported under WIndows 10 (and windows 10 has some OS issues still to be resolved by MS)

May I ask what Matrox Device did you use? What connections?

So no later than Windows 8.1 for what I can see in the Version Matrix.

Would I still be better off with Windows 7 ?

Mostly a Matrox LE on the PC but the Mini Max works also although it´s mostly used on my MacBook for live playouts.

Works well both with Win 8.1 and a test boot with Win 10 , latest Matrox drivers .

add.. sorry missed .. connection is Matrox own PCI-e card on the Pc side , using Matrox Express card on my Mac
