    Re: MC 8.4.1 Capture Fail.

    James Vickers:
Do i need to de activate the licence before removing MC and then reactivate after the reinstall? Or is that not necessary.

    James,

I have a dongle, and therefor I never de-activate of activate the license. However with software license, I assume you have to de-activate the current version before un-installation and then re-activat with the new installed version. When I un-install an existing version, the installer asks me, whether I would like to de-activate the software first. In my case, I just continue deinstallation. This question may be the last chance to de-activate your license before de-installation.

I hope, others who run a software licensed MC version will clarify this.

    DStone:
What firewire chip are you using? You can find this in the Windows device manager in the IEE 1394 controllers section.

It is the integrated controller on the Gigabyte Motherboard. Windows device manager reports :- Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI compliand host controller

I guess that supports your theory that TI chipe work better with Media Composer.

Tomas reports that it's working for him as well with a TI chip set. I have the Via chip set. I'm going to get a card with a TI chip and test that.

    Dave,

I have two different IEEE ports, one on motherboard and one on Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZX. Both have TI chip-sets and both do not work with MC 8.4.1 and 8.4.2, they both work with MC 8.4.

    @ Dave.

Its and old article. but maybe as from how understand it that Joachim's firewire is not dedicated.

May still be worth trying the dedicated TI firewire card.

    Re: MC 8.4.1 Capture Fail.

    Hi

I’m not sure if this is any help?

Following this thread I have been reluctant to update from my ver 8.3 to 8.4 but as I had finished capturing from my HDV tapes for my current project I decided to give it a try.

Previously I had messed about deactivating uninstalling and reading what to do generally taking my time to install an upgrade.

This time I just logged on to the Avid Application Manager and followed the prompts. I’m impressed; it installed MC 8.4.2.27885 like a dream without any problems.

What has this to do with this thread?

I can confirm that capturing HDV from my Sony HGR-FX7 works perfectly in 8.4.2.27885 via firewire just like it did before.

I also have EDIUS Workgroup 8 on the same PC and I was having trouble capturing HDV (mini DV was OK) with both applications which revolved around uninstalling MATROX mini. I can confirm that this has also been resolved since installing 8.4.2.27885.

    Regards

What is your HDV-format? I run a JVC BR-HD50 (PAL) in HD 720P50 format. As I said earlier, this deck worked fine with all versions prior to MC 8.4.1.

In addition, I have tested Capturing with the same system and the same deck under Windows 10 (dual boot workstation with Windows 7-64 Ultimate and Windows 10-64 Professional). I got exactly the same results, i.e. capturing runs flawlessly with MC version 8.4 and fails with version 8.4.2.

    Re: MC 8.4.1 Capture Fail.

Thank you Ken for your information,

be it makes a difference, whether the incoming digital signal is HDV1 (720P) or HDV2 (1080i). In my case with HDV1 (720p) the isssue is, that I cannot even select a video source in the capture tool, as it is greyed out. As I can capture with other software tools, it is definitely not a driver or deck issue. The problem is just between MC version 8.4.1/8.4.2 and any earlier version.

    Re: MC 8.4.1 Capture Fail.

HDV 1 might be somewhat rare nowadays and it wasn´t so frequently used even during the HDV days so maybe there aren´t so many units available for tests nowadays, not even for the Avid techs, maybe you should open up a support ticket about this.

    Hi Tomas,

I thought the escalation by DStone (see earlier in this thread) should trigger-off Avid's developer.

    Joachim

That one seems to be more Via chip related Joachim , I´m not even sure if it is an Avid bug.

Your problem seems to be that with an Avid certified Texas Instrument chip tape capturing of HDV 1 has stopped working with later Avid versions.
