    Stagetools and computer speed

I am using Stagetools, the excellent stills animation tool, with Avid v7 on a 2009 Mac Tower with 16GB of RAM.  Ever since Avid went to 64bit Stagetools has caused the computer to slow way down.  Even after a Stagetools effect has been rendered I get the red line over the clip in the timeline and playback becomes laggy as the cursor goes across the shot.  Also, it can take ages to open the plug-in - sometimes as much as 5 minutes! - slowing the CPU down to a complete halt.  During those 5 minutes I can't do anything else on my computer.

Bill Ferster, who made Stagetools, claims he has not heard about this happening and says "more RAM can't hurt".

But is my problem merely RAM?  Do I finally need a newer/faster computer?  Would swapping out the boot drive for a solid state drive make much difference?  Will things improve or get worse when I upgrade to Avid v8?

I should note that everything else I use the computer for - including all other aspects of Avid - work great.

    Many thanks,

    Peter

What is your CPU speed and number of processors?  There were many flavors of the 2009 Mac Pros.

Have you adjusted the Stagetools' settings to indicate multi-cpu support? Try placing images in a local drive or desktop. Stagetools can be finicky with network drives, including ISIS.

Thanks Dom but all drives are local.  No network drives involved..
