How do you Transcode Mixed Format AMA Linked Sequence?

ALL YOU AVID GURUS, This is URENT…
I saw Kevin P. McAuliffe's Consolidate/Transcode Lesson 82 on Vimeo which almost made everything clear.
Here's the problem I've run into.

I gotta project (Setting) which is 1080p/23.976
All the Multi Formatted files are AMA Linked files.
The timeline is consist of 1080p/23.976 and 640x480/29.97 SD footage (mixed formats).
When I Transcode the sequence, the new (640x480/29.97) SD clips have a motion blur
Even the new Transcoded Timeline with SD footage has motion blur.
Note: The 1080p/23.976 footage looks fine…
    I know I'm missing a few steps here…
Can you GURUS please give me a solution for this problem?

    Thanks a MILLION !!!!!!

    Z

Losing frames by going to a lower frame rate never looks as good as the original higher frame rate footage.  If you can, export the sequence from a 1080p/29.94 or 1080i/59.94 project.  If not, you'll need to promote any 29.97 footage in the Motion Effect Editor and try different settings to get the best results on a per clip basis.

Woh, that would lots of clips to promote in motion effects editor.

Surprisingly, I had worked with mixed formats in FCP7 with success.

Hey Brock let me ask you,

can I conform them in Cinema Tools to 23.976 then link thru AMA then Transcode?

I don't think Cinema Tools is going to help here.  Rather than removing predictable 3:2 pulldown, you're trying to convert 30i to 23.98p.  Not the same thing.

First off, what's your final delivery?  Where's it going to be seen?  What is the frame rate of the majority of the clips on your timeline?

FCP and Media Composer handle non-native speed clips the same way: they add motion effects to get the desired frame rate.  The difference is that FCP doesn't give you any control and Media Compser does.  The trick is to find the best one(s).

Re: How do you Transcode Mixed Format AMA Linked Sequence?

    FYI:

Hey guys I did some tests and after some trial n error I finally got positive results.

Here is the workflow using Compressor if I can remember correctly.

    I imported a 640x480/29.97 clip in Compressor,

    applied ProRes 422 preset

    changed frame rate to 24fps

apllied frame blending, De-Interlace, Progressive and some other tweaking I can't exactly remember. .

    Changed frame size to 1920x1080.

I then imported into Media Composer via AMA Link.

Created a sequence with 1080p dslr footage and the recently created ProRes clip.

    Then Transcoded the Sequence.

I must say that it looks really good !!!!

I am sure same results can be achieved with Sorenson Squeeze or some other applications but Compressor worked for me and I'm more comfortable with it.

if any of you wanna try it out, just let me know. I'll post the exact settings.

    Thanks everyone !
