What is the best and fastest way to import/work Canon 60D files in AMC7?

Can I just bring them in as AMA Link files and output the project?

I know this sounds silly but, I had to convert them to ProRes to work in FCP7...

Do I have to do anything similar in AMC7? I mean, do I have to convert them to ProRes and then bring it in as AMA?

    I'm using Mac Pro 8 Core / 24GBRAM / 1GBVRAM / Dual 24" Monitors

    Thanks,

    Z

You can use them immediately when you AMA link. But it is not recommended unless your timeline is simple and short. Ideally, you want to transcode them to DNXHD.

In other words, regularly import them?

The project is over 1 hour length...

No, AMA link first then TRANSCODE. This will be faster than regular import.

The best way is to AMA the original footage and then transcode to a suitable DNX or ProRes codec.  With AMA you can relink back to the original footage if you need to transcode the final sequence to a different codec if necessary.  If you import the only way to change the codec of the imported footage is to reimport ALL of any clip in the final sequence rather than just the parts of a clip that end up in the final sequence.

Must think of something clever to go here...

Re: What is the best and fastest way to import/work Canon 60D files in AMC7?

Let me understand this a little better.

So if I AMA all the footage, create a sequence, does it relink and transcode to DNX or ProRes only clips from In-Out on the timeline?

In other words, I'm saying that If I have a clip that's 30sec long in the AMA Bin and I only use 10sec of that clip on the timeline, will it only transcode (DNX or ProRes) 10sec of the timeline clip used?

    Thanks again,

Yes, if you transcode the sequence or a clip with an I/O point, it will only do that section.

So do I just set my I/O the whole sequence then Right click on the Sequence in the bin and choose Relink?

That depends on several things. Are your media in your timeline AMA linked media (yellow clips in the bin)? If yes, then all you have to do is right click the sequence in the bin and select Consolidate/Transcode. Select Transcode, choose your drive, set handles (extra frames beyond the used portion), select the format and transcode.

it will create a new sequence along the transcoded version of the clips.
