    MC 7 crashes on h264 import/export

    Hi,

is anyone else having the same problem? I just upgraded to MC 7 (Ver 7.0 Interplay Edition) and now I have problems exporting and importing h264 compressed .mov files (fe from the canon 5D MKIII).

Every time I try to import the files I get the message "Creating Video from QT for [file name]" for about 4 minutes and then the error message "Expectation: A serious Error has occured! It is recommended that you restart the application immediately.!

Every time I try to export a QT h264 .mov file, the system just freezes...

    Did anyone solve this problem?

    Thanks!

    Re: MC 7 crashes on h264 import/export

    Hello,

I've got a similar problem. Avid always crash when i try to export/import with h264 codec. I'm on MC5.

Maybe it's not an upgrade issue ?

The crash report is always "0x0 etc...", no more explanation.

Who can tell us what's going on ?

    Re: MC 7 crashes on h264 import/export

    Hello,

I'm on the same boat. I have MC 7.0.2 Interplay Edition and when I try to export to h.264, it gives me the colorwheel and stays. I have to end up exporting SAS (Same as Source) and then converting to h.264 in Adobe Encoder which is not ideai.

I wonder what it could be. I'm on mountain lion.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

Not an answer to your question but I don't get why you guys have the Interplay edition.

I believe it's because my edition is educational so it allows me to use shared network space.

OK. What version of QT do you have? do you have any 3rd party decoders such as FFDShow or DiVX H.264 decoder?

    Try uninstalling them.

I have version 10.2. Don't have any third party decoders that I know of. It just freezes with color wheel everytime I try to H.264.

Don't know what it could be.

It sounds rookie but when I've run into this problem on both 7.0.3 and 6.5.4 I've converted them using http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ back into a h.264 with same settings and then they seem to work, it's not a fix but it's a workaround

Yeah, I actually have to export to DNXHD and then encode it with Adobe Media Encoder. But I'm just looking to resolve the issue with MC so I don't have to do the extra step.

    Thanks though!

No problem, the other option is to consolodate the sequence into a new bin then export that sequence. Or if all comes to worst, transcode the sequence to a new bin and try that

I'm having this exact same problem on import.  I'd really like to avoid having to transcode my footage to something else before importing it.  Has anyone figured out a fix for this yet?

It sounds like an issue with a codec or something.

How do you have v10.2? The latest version available for PC is v7.7.4.
