Re: AVID DVD 6.4.4. authoring problem

Which leads you to the question of how long Avid will provide an EOL application as a professional disk authoring solution.

They should consider Bundling Sony DVD Architect Pro or the TmpGenc software.

Dell Display U2713HM(2560x1440), AMD FX8350 8core, AMD 990FX mobo, 32gig-DDR3-1600, Quadro K620/GTX260/core 216, Audigy2zs, 1TB SSD system drive, 2TB SATA... [view my complete system specs]

    Using MC 20.6. Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 17/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D

    John,

I asked a similar question in December 2012, actually more about how support would be provided.
Although I was promised an answer back then, I not received an answer to my question yet.

It's at times like these that the infamous Avid silent approach speaks loudly.

No wonder I ditched Avid DVD last year in favour of TMPGEnc Authoring Works.

It's not free . . .  but it is alive and well.
In fact in about an hour from now I will be hosting a Skype "webinar" on it. Geeked

H'mm... maybe something our ACA brethren can address.

Re: AVID DVD 6.4.4. authoring problem

Since I missed your webinar will it be available for viewing it at a later date?? I am always interested in seeing what others do.

I have used a "Digital-Rapids.com" card with real-time down scaling of HD (if that is what you want). I run DR from another computer. With their "deck controller" I am able to, via a comport to comport Null modem cable, control the avid MC timeline as a VTR (video tape recorder). The VTR setup of MC is very easy.

The video is played out from MC via SDI and into the Digital-rapids card. The timecode is received over the null-modem cable. All happens in realtime. Scaling, proc-amps, de-interlaciing, interlacing and smoothing filters are done in hardward and the resulting hopefully nice picture is then passed to the software compressor (yes the compression is done in software). I use Mpeg2, of course for DVD, and Digital-Rapids CABAC compressor for flash web video.

Most of my clients still want physical discs - DVD's and Blu-rays.

Naturally all this cost money. But I have owned DR hardware-software for years and it has paid off nicely.

    Craig,

You may have noticed I called it a "webinar" - The quotation marks are important there. I would not be so bold as to compare my modest meeting with a small group of interested parties a fully blown webinar.
It was more of an informal chat in which I showed some of my workflow, via screensharing, and answered questions about TAW5 as well as I could.

There is no recording of the webinar for later showing.
Interested people will be able to find tutorials on TAW5 on my site.

    Sorry

    Regards

    Douglas

Re: AVID DVD 6.4.4. authoring problem

Marco, please do a google search.  There are MANY Avid DVD/Blu Ray Tutorials with video and illustrations available.

Your issue sounds like a burner issue.  It might be improper setup.  It might be inferior media.
