Bus Error/Crash upon Launching Project - Avid MC 5.0.4.4

I'm attempting to install Avid Media Composer 5.0.4.4 on my MacBook Pro but receive the crash error:
"Bus error" in thread "MainThread", at address     0x0

when trying to open a project (either one I made new or one from my other system).  In short, the program launches fine, but crashes after choosing a project.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as creating a new user and dumping MCState.

I am running a new MacBook Pro with
    - OS 10.8.2

    - 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7

    - 16 GB of 1600 MHz DDR3

I am running Avid MC 5.0.4.4 on my Mac Tower so I want to have a matching version on my laptop.

    Any ideas?

don't think you wll get MC 5 to run under mountain lion. 6.0.3 and 6.5 are the only versions qualified to run on 10.8

    See version matrix here

Media Composer Nitris DX 2018.8 with Symphony option Win10 64Gb Ram * Media Composer 8.8 with Symphony option Nitris DX Dual 2.66GHz "Westmere"... [view my complete system specs]

Well in that case, do you know what my best solution will be?  If I decide to upgrade, will I be able to use 5.0.4.4 on my Mac Tower (which is a 32 bit machine) and 6.5 on my MacBook Pro (64 bit) by activating one and deactivating the other (and vice versa when i want to switch back)?  Or does it not work that way?

I think the licensing procedure has changed with 6.5 so I don't think it is as simple as deactivating/activating. The activation codes are different AFAIK.

Does your Mac Pro tower support the 64 bit OS? If so, you may want to take it up to an OS that can run 6.5 to keep it in line with your laptop.

I don't believe it does support the 64 bit OS.  Hope I'm not SOL, because I definitely don't want to have to buy a full version of MC just for my laptop.

    Which Mac tower?

I have 10.8.0 running happily on a 2008 Mac Pro here. FWIW I have not installed Avid on it only because it has a Decklink Extreme 3D card that Avid does not seem to like.

There are certain 2008 Towers that can handle it.  I believe mine isn't one of them though.

I did not think mine was either, so I took out the current bootdrive, added a new drive and installed 10.8. Happily it worked.
