    MC 6.5 to After Effects?

Hi all, Im working on a few ads and need to export my final sequence to another guy (who's not in my network or linked in anyway to my computer) for him to add some effects.

All the tutorials I see assume that you are using the same computer for both activities.

I am wondering what the best way is to get the sequence to him to allow him to add effects and then be able to get it all back into a timeline where I can still edit the timeline.

Hope that makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

If he's not connected to your computer via a network, you cannot generate a QT ref file. Instead, export a Quicktime movie at the highest quality and lowest compression (or no compression) that your storage and transfer capacity will allow. Best to click the "custom" button on the export options window from the export tool and custom build a profile. THe "Format Options" button gets you deeper into setting up the profile.

Thanks Larry, I was afraid of that, but hoping for a different answer.

If it's at all possible, can either computer be transported so they can be hooked together? Then, you could do a QT ref export to his.

I've had very good results using a self-contained aaf to AE CS6.

Coming back the other way hasn't been as elegant, I usually end up rendering a flattened DNxHD from AE and cutting it into the timeline.

Re: MC 6.5 to After Effects?

That's good news. Am looking at the Export settings now for AAF. There's a dropdown menu called Export Method. with the choices:

Link to Media, Copy all Media, Consolidate Media, Video Mixdown.

I guess the first is not right, but what about the others? Also, these are very simple timelines... no fancy Avid tricks except for a dissolve and a title created in Marquee.

    Thanks for the help!

Consolidate Media.  Then either embed in AAF or send it to a folder - both options will come up.  AE will be able to find them either way.

You should look into Boris Transfer AE.  http://www.borisfx.com/XML-Transfer/

    There's a free trial (I believe 14 days).

Automatic Duck is no longer required as of CS6.  (That's part of why it's now free.)
