Solution if you have problems importing from camcorder into Avid Studio

I hope this is the right forum, but wanted to post this answer as Pinnacle/Avid was of NO help in this situation.

I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Professional.  When I went to install Pinnacle Studio 10, I received an error message that I had to upgrade to Avid studio as Pinnacle Studio was no compatible.  So I bought Avid studio.

I uninstalled Pinnacle Studio and thought everything was going to work fine.  I connected my Canon Camcorder (digital) via firewire to my computer.  Windows 7 immediately recognized it.  Nero sees the camera and I'm able to control the Canon.  However, when I opend Avid Studio, I clicked on the "import" button and nothing showed up!

I tried contacting Avid, tried searching the net, nothing solved the problem.  I was going through old programs in the control panel and saw that the Pinnacle Video Controller never uninstalled itself.  As soon as I uninstalled that program, everything worked fine.

Avid is a powerful program, but I get frustrated with the lack of support from them AFTER the sale and the help section is pitiful.

anyway, if anyone has a similar problem, look for leftover Pinnacle products that may have no uninstalled (sign of lazy programming).
