Edit in Avid to Final in Premiere: I need help!

Hey guys. I need a little help.

Basically, what I'm deciding to do on my upcoming short film is to do a low-quality cut in Avid, then do "finishing touches" on the high quality footage in Premiere. Here is what I'm planning on doing,

    1. Import .mov files

    2. Transcode them as a low quality format, like MXF 14:1

    3. Do the edit

    4. Export as an EDL/AAF? (I'm still not even sure)

    5. Import in Premiere then relink with original uncompressed .mov files

Whatever this workflow is, I'm having difficultly doing it.

Should I use EDL or AAF? How would I relink in Premiere? Should I do an AMA link, but then what would be the point if I'm not "onlining" in Avid?

What would you do in this case? I'm pretty new to Avid so desciptive answers are appresiated.

    Thanks!

    "... I'm having difficultly doing it. ..."

That's not very helpful.  Can you be more specific?

    1) Just curious, what does Premiere offer you for finishing, that Media Composer does not.  Both can handle the uncompressed Quicktime.

    2) AAF.  It retains more metadata.

    3) I have no idea how Premire links or relinks.

    4) AMA is an Avid feature.  I doubt it exists within Premiere.

Doesn't Premiere handle raw files much better than Avid does? I've heard that the handling of raw DSLR footage is bad in Avid... maybe I'm mistaken? I find also that I can put finishing touches in Premiere like Film Grain in AE for example without having to export. Could this be done in Avid without having to export a whole new video file?

I'm running Avid Symphony 6 by the way.

raw DSLR footage is compressed thats why they use a compact flash card ..I edit raw P2 files in hd on my avid and dont do any low rez anymore..  No need avid plays them well and edits them great.  The real world will work better with avid a project than a pp one. I just finished a film  shot on avchd  I transcoded it to hd 185 DNxHD and stayed there till final export it looks great .
