QT Reference replaces video with blank green

When I export a Quicktime Reference file, some of the video is gone, replaced by blank green screen. The audio is still there. What am I missing?

Likely an XDCAM QT Codec. Is some of the video in your project XDCAM/HDV? Are you on a Mac or Windows computer?

Take a look at this thread: 6.0.1.1 Export via QT

Yes, some of the video is HDV. I'm on a Mac, v 10.7.4

I checked out that thread- they seem to be talking about XDCAM. And, they had to purchase a QT plugin from Calibrated?

The HDV QT Codec is part of the XDCAM HD codecs. XDCAM HD at 25Mb is the exact same codec as HDV.

On the Mac you can get this codec via FCP7, FCP-X, Compressor or Motion.

The HDV codec is part of the FCP 6/7 DVD; you don't need to entire suite, just install the QMaster Node from the Apple FCP Studio installer DVD. Page 15-16 has the details.

There's an Extras folder on the DVD that will only install the QMaster  Node Software.

This is good info on the topic: Export XDCAM Media as a QuickTime Movie?

Thanks. I have FCP7, Compressor, Motion installed; does that mean I should have this codec already installed too? I'll check it out.

Trying to figure things out, I noticed that the video showed up on one clip where I had applied an effect. So I applied a blank effect on an empty track on top, and then found that all the video showed up on the QTRef.

The rendered effect is what's actually what's being exported. This is likely set at a DNxHD codec and would explain why it's playing.

It might be faster to transcode the HDV to a DNxHD codec.
