    Canon XF100 Files

Have had a Canon XF100 for a few months and its an awesome camera when used with DSLR'S.  My only gripe is when i put the cf card in the reader I hit import and I it wont let me import the whole file.  I then have to open each file and then import the MXF file.  When you are doing a big shoot it is a pain.  Premier will bring in the whole file and then import.  Am I doing something wrong with the import setting on the Avid or something wrong with the camera setting.  When it does import it looks really gorgeous!!!

Bring them in using AMA & consolidate or  transcode the files.

    Re: Canon XF100 Files

Can anyone guide me to an idiot's guide for this? I've tried searching Tips and Tutorials but can't find the baseline how-to instructions someone like me needs just now!

eg. downloading from card onto a media drive; do you need to make a carefully-named folder to put files in? And when you ask Avid to link - what level do you ask it to link to/at? There's probably a good tutorial somewhere, but can't find it! Thanks for any guidance

Apologies, I've just found the pinned link to the 'Getting Started' tutorials on my usual Mac forum that include a chapter on this. I expect that's all I need - no need to point me there!

Gto new 12 core apples and have CS6 on them.  Seems like Premier brings everything in seemless with no issues.  Every file I import just comes in.  Now Avid has to transcode everything and I work with all sorts of differnet files.  I also mapped the avid keyboard so keystrokes are no an issue.  In the big picture why does Avid have to transcode everything in when Adobe can just import it wih no issues.  AMA is just stupid the way it works.  Avid just let us natively import including red files and we will be happy.  Not saying I am going to get rid of Avid but will run both.  I am editing a big project on Premier and will let eveybody know.

everything works very well with ama in mc 7.0.2,

especially when using canon xf utility as well, for making a copy of the files on a hd.

So how's that Premiere project running at minute 55 of an hour-long fast-cuts multicam show with un transcoded h.264 video and multiple layers of effects?

i like Premiere too, but it's no miracle worker.

    Re: Canon XF100 Files

    Hello,
    I have a Canon XF105.

    My workflow:

    1) copy materials from the cards using Canon XF Utility and proper classification by project / cameras / days, etc.

    2) Project MC, AMA volume link the appropriate folders.

    3) consolidation of material into RAID arrays, they become:
      a) stable environment and a faster response by the project MC.
      b) a second copy of the material, of course, that the footage is stored on another HDD.

The whole procedure is very fast, there is no need to recode anything, basically depends on the speed card reader / HDD / interface ....
