Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

I'm in the process of installing MC 6.0.1 on a completely new computer. No Avid product has ever been installed on it. I've downloaded the Readme for 6.0.1 and have been working my way through it. Under "Setting up the NVIDIA Card" on page 24 it says to set Desktop to Video Editing Mode by:

    1. Right-click the Desktop, and select Nvidia Control Panel.

    2. In the menu bar, select Desktop. Enable Desktop>Video Editing Mode.

    3. Click Apply.

But when I choose the Video Editing Mode, the check box does not activate and the Apply button does not appear. A search of this forum shows that at least two other users have had this problem, but I haven't been able to locate a solution.

Again, this is a completely clean OS. MC hasn't even been installed yet. I'm first going through the Readme to set up the drivers and supporting programs properly.

Thanks much for any help!! :)

My bad, just wrote that out--will update. It's a Quadro 2000.

Off topic but how did you manage to spend so much on *Edit, surely that's a price tag for at that time 'inferior' Avid?  ;-) PS I can't enable desktop editing either!

Ok, as you see from my specs I have the older version, worked well here, will go through all the steps one again, from memory it was somewhat picky, I had to have the description on one computer and setting it up on another really following all the descriptions line by line.

Please tell if you manage to do it if you try one more time.

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

    Bobby,

Strangley I am having the same issue on new z800.

    I have a Quadro 2000D plus Quadro 5000.

On my xw8200 had a monitor attached to each. Could always select EDITING mode.

Now, in the z800 I have both monitors attached to the Quadro 2000D and use the Quadro 5000 in my Cubix expander for rendering. Works more than great, but no EDITING mode? Just noticed today.

Also my BMD Multibridge Eclipse is now working like a ROCKET. Will do another thread on my experience. Bandwidth, that the issue!

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

    Thomas and Radman,

I haven't been able to get it to work. I've search Google, the Nvidia Control Panel Help and Nvidia's knowledge base. I really can't find out much about the usefulness of this setting.

    George,

I've attached a picture of what the setting look like.

P.S. It's interesting that when I first try to enable this setting, the screen goes blank for a second or two as if it's trying to set something but then quits. If I try enabling the setting again (w/o rebooting) this black flash does not happen. But either way, Enable Video Editing Mode remains unchecked.

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

    Hi Bobby,

As I mentioned, it does not seem to be affecting anything with my graphics and Avid MC6 at face value. Would be interesting to find out the answer though.

Avid also seems to be using the Quadro 5000 for rendering with no issues.

    The combination seems perfect.

    Cheers

    Radman.

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

    Radman,

I'm going to continue w/ the install, and I believe MC will work with this setting not enabled. But I'm a little concerned for two reasons.

First, it's mentioned in the Readme to do this... and it can't be done, AFAICT. Second, it's very difficult to tell how much help a setting like this might provide. So while MC seems to work fine w/o it, does it work even better w/ it turned on?

Thanks very much for your input Wink

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

From what I have seen this mostly affects systems with any type of external hardware connected as for example a Matrox unit.

This can also be the reason to why some users have less good behaviour together with the external units.

Thomas, were you able to activate Enable Video Editing Mode on your system? Thanks much.

Have a Quadro 4000 in the Z400, and a Quadro 1800m in the laptop and was able to check "Video Editing Mode" on both. All I can think of is that I did it AFTER installing MC. Also have PP5 on both machines for what ever that is worth.

Re: Can't Enable Nvidia "Video Editing Mode"

I can't enable it either. After re-installing things in various orders I gave up. MC always recognizes the Quadro 2000 card and things seem to work. It is a mystery.
